The PartyPail office recently got together for a Halloween-style potluck where everyone was challenged to cook up their scariest plate. The results were frighteningly clever and easy enough that you can recreate them yourself for your own Halloween celebration!
1. Spinach-Artichoke Dip in Jack-o’-Lantern Bread Bowl
Artichoke dip in a bread bowl is a party classic that can easily be updated for Halloween by carving a Jack-o’-Lantern face into the bread bowl. Make the pumpkin “sick” by having the dip falling out of its mouth – ew!
2. Kitty Litte Cake
It looks disgusting, but this is actually a delicious cake with Tootsie Rolls. Just be sure to use a NEW kitty litter pan and scoop!
3. Graveyard Sheet Cake
Say goodbye to boring-old sheet cake and hello to a fun graveyard cake!
4. “Band-Aid” Graham Crackers
It’s crazy how realistic these graham cracker Band-Aids look! Simply use icing for the “cotton” and “blood.”
5. Monster Eye Deviled Eggs
Replace the usual yolk filling with guacamole to make these monster eyeballs. Top with green olives and make the eyes “bloodshot” with hot sauce.
6. Skeleton Veggie Tray
This idea is so simple, but so cute! Simply arrange your veggies in a skeletal shape and use the bowl of dip for the head!
7. Witch Finger Cookies
A simple sugar cookie recipe tinted green can produce these crazy realistic-looking witch finger cookies. Use almonds for the “nails.”
8. Petrified Rat Pecans
This is the easiest idea of the bunch! A bowl of pecans = instant petrified rats. Give the pecans Cajun or cinnamon-sugar seasoning for an extra tasty touch.
9. Mummy Pigs-in-Blankets
Pigs in blankets are always a party favorite, and you can easily Halloween-ify this treat by wrapping the crescent roll dough mummy-style around the dogs.
10. Spider Slime Dip
Add eight legs, pincers, and googly eyes to a black bowl to make a spider. Fill the bowl with the dip of your choice and label it as “Spider Slime!”
11. Spider Web Pasta Salad
Whip up a basic pasta salad and top it with string cheese to look like a spider’s web. Make spiders out of olives and set them on the web.
12. Black Bean and Hot Dog “Bugs”
It’s crazy how much black beans and boiled hot dog strips look like bugs and worms. Disgusting appearance, but actually pretty tasty…
13. Jack-o’-Lantern Veggies and Dip
Cut a Jack-o’-Lantern shape from an orange bell pepper and fill it with veggie dip. It’ll look like a “sick” pumpkin!
What’s your favorite spooky plate idea?!
