The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are quickly approaching! Between the skiing, figure skating, bobsledding, ice hockey, and the luge, the Winter Olympics provide a perfect opportunity to gather with friends and family for a viewing party. Or, if you’re throwing a birthday party for a Winter Olympics enthusiast in the near future, it could be the perfect party theme! There are tons of creative ideas to consider for a Winter Olympics party, so we narrowed the choice down to 10 of our favorites
1. Olympic Ring Cookies via Heather Christo
These Olympic ring cookies look great stacked on a tray and are simple to make! Just make your favorite roll-out sugar cookie dough and use two round cookie cutters, a larger one and a smaller one, to cut the ring shape. Decorate the rings with icing in the same colors of the Olympic rings: blue, yellow, black (could skip depending on availability of black icing), green, and red.
2. International Cuisine via Oopsey Daisy Blog
For food, one idea is to serve a spread of cuisines to represent different countries. If the party is for adults, you could go with more ethnic choices, but if the party is for kids, you can use kid-friendly choices like Oopsey Daisy Blog did. She served hot dogs for the USA, French fries for France, and pesto pasta for Italy. Don’t forget to serve something in honor of host country Russia!
3. Champion Chocolate Cake Recipe via Taste of Home
For the cake, a super simple way to incorporate the theme is to bake a sheet cake, ice it white, and decorate the top with M&Ms in the pattern of the Olympic Rings. For a surprise inside, make the cake red velvet to support team USA.
4. Olympic Rings Pizza via Taste of Home
Another creative Olympic rings food idea! For this one, decorate the top of a pizza with pepperonis in the shape of the rings. You could make the pizza from scratch, get a “take and bake” pizza, add pepperonis to a frozen pizza, or you could special request the pattern when you call and order the pizza for the party.
5. Olympic Torch Cupcakes via Creative Party Ideas by Cheryl
These Olympic Torch cupcakes are delicious and oh-so simple to make. Inside each cone is a scoop of cake pop mixture and fiery red and yellow icing are piped on top with a pasty bag.
6. Olympic Torch Popcorn via A Small Snippet
Another Olympic torch idea that’s more on the salty side is to fill ice cream cones with popcorn. You could use basic buttered popcorn or fill them with red cinnamon popcorn, red Sriracha popcorn, or orange cheese popcorn.
7. Olympic Ring Martini via Capital Cooking Show
For the 21 and older crowd, mix up some Olympic Ring Martinis. This recipe uses Life Savers for the “Olympic Rings” and is perfect for the Russian Olympics with a vodka base!
This is another one for the adults! A party ice luge might seem like it only belongs in a frat house, but it can be a fun addition to your Olympics party, especially when you have the luge event playing on the TV.
9. Olympic Ring Colors Party Decor via Savannah Smiled
This simple, but effective table decoration includes streamers and balloons in the Olympic ring colors. The Balloons are even spaced to resemble the rings! To get this look, check out our True Blue, School Bus Yellow, Black Velvet, Fresh Lime, and Classic Red party supplies.
10. Olympic Games Party Activities via Tania McCartney
If the party is for kids, throwing your own mini version of the Olympics, complete with competitive events, is a must! Check out Tania McCartney’s blog for details on all the competitions you can host right in your living room. A podium and medals for all are a must!
